Owner Trained Assistance Dog
This program is exactly what it says- OWNER TRAINED. I do not offer fully trained assistance dogs. There are a variety of reasons why someone would wish to train their own assistance dog (or train one for a family member), and as of now the law allows for this. Training your own assistance dog is an extremely rewarding journey that allows you to be more in-touch with the process. Students have made it known that they would have been unprepared for a trained assistance dog after working in my program. The program is a FULL TWO YEAR program - You will work through the Public Access Process and work on task specific training. We use the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen program as our training benchmarks. You are given unlimited access to Pawsitively Unleashed! training classes and 1 private training lesson each month. I specialize in Diabetic Alert Dog training. I am currently working with dogs for Mobility and Diabetic Alert - The two-year program is $3500.00 (payable in advance) Please note, not all dogs are appropriate for work as an assistance dog. I will evaluate your dog (if you have one). Please DO NOT rush out to buy a puppy before applying - I can assist you in finding the right puppy. A non-refundable application fee ($100) and verification of disability is required to be considered for the program. |
Therapy Dog Class
This 10-week, therapy dog specific class will get you and your dog ready to volunteer (or work) as a therapy team. You will be introduced to scenarios you may encounter on visits, learn how to handle unusual situations and how to read your dog for stress, as well as how to act accordingly. Class includes: PDF training manual, the final exam evaluation and the 2 required facility observations for Therapy Animals Unleashed member registration. $225.00 -- class is offered 2- 3 times per year.
